IMAGINING THE FUTURE OF DAVE Meet DAVE. Dave is a guy from Liverpool in the UK and he is 30 years old. He has a wife and a baby daughter. Dave had an education in software programming, but most of the software programming nowadays is done by advanced artifical intelligence. Dave lives in a nice, little house and gets an universal basic income of 1000 pounds a month. His wife gets the same. Together that is enough to pay the rent, buy some food and clothes and go to the pub now and then. Dave uses Gig. Wallet to earn some extra money. Dave loves to watch soccer (Liverpool) and is a very fanatic runner (marathons) IMAGINE AN UTOPIAN STORY FOR DAVE IMAGINE AN DYSTOPIAN STORY FOR DAVE Dave loves his live. Because he ‘earns’ 2000 pounds a month together with his wife he does not have to worry about paying the rent or making sure there is food on the table. Dave hates his live. He gets an universal basic income, but that’s what it is. Universal and basic. Yes, he can pay the rent and make sure there is food on the table, but Dave feels his talents are wasted. He thinks that it is great that robots do most of the boring work today. As a software programmer he was destined for a boring live behind a screen, but because robots are doing all the programming, Dave has created an account at Gig. Wallet and specializes as a creative programmer. He does all the fun and crazy things computers can not do. Sometimes there is no work, but Dave does not worry, his money is guaranteed. He uses Gigwallet to try and earn some extra money, but it is really hard. Everybody, worldwide, is trying to get the interesting jobs, so competition is really hard. Dave could do some small chores in which humans are still cheaper than robots, like collecting garbage, but he does not like that. And even there, competition is very hard. Furthermore Dave makes sure he does not have to do too much work. He has a rigid training schedule and he makes sure he has time enough to watch his favorite soccergames. Daves wife uses Gig. Wallet to take care of elderly people. She takes them for a walk and loves the conversations. She also uses Gig. Wallet to hire someone trustworthy to watch their child, while they go out to dinner. Dave does not feel the pressure of outperforming his neighbors, nobody does anymore. www. tict. io / crashcourse ten / creative commons - excercise OR Most people do not feel appreciated anymore. Dave feels envy to people that still have a job. Having a job gives a sense of meaning to people. This sense of meaning is totally gone. Dave loves to run, but recently he got notice that he is too fanatic, risking injuries. His running is tracked by a device, and the people from the government, that give him income, are also paying for his medical costs. That is why he has to run less. Luckily there is still soccer to watch, although Dave can not pay for a ticket, and has big problems with affording his pay channel.
