IMAGINATIVE AND CREATIVE Act out the travel from Scandinavian countries to the UK and imagine the difficulties faced. Freeze frame a typical Viking and Saxon village with individuals taking on roles from each village. Create a court room and compare crimes and punishment. KNOWLEDGE SEEKER AND KEEPER Create maps to show the movements and new settlements across the UK and all of Europe. Hot seat significant figures such as Bede. Use artefacts from Sutton Hoo and Staffordshire Hoard to collect information. Research the development of Christianity by St Augustine. Arrange a visit to the Jorvik museum to complete a workshop about the take over of York. MOTIVATED IMAGINATIVE AND RESILIENT CREATIVE Pupils undertake research project at home about Saxon and/or Viking boats. Pupils are interested in finding out their own facts and sharing them with the rest of the class. Opportunities to share work they are proud of. Create a profile a strong Saxon and Viking leader. RESEPECTFUL AND CARING Consider why people moved and the challenges they faced – decide if a reason is a pull or push. Compare the differences between Saxons, Vikings and Scots and why they made different choices. Consider the reliability of different myths and legends such as Hengist, Horsa and Beowolf. Consider the fear that Viking raids caused. Consider which roles where the most pleasant or challenging in each village. COMMUNICATOR AND COLLABORATOR Class discussions throughout to share ideas. Work in groups to create a human timeline to show when Anglo Saxons, Vikings and Scots experienced significant events. Debate whether the Saxons or Vikings were more successful.
