Electrical System Tunnel Distribution • Conventional Power Distribution for KCS • Each 35 k. V/480 V unit substation feeds nine 480 V panel boards • Distance between shafts is approximately 2. 1 km, and distance from the unit substation to the furthest panel board is approximately 1 km. • Distance between 480 V panel boards is approximately 232 m. Electrical System Klystron Distribution • • Conventional Power Distribution for KCS Klystron RF Units are Grouped in Surface Buildings Each 35 k. V/480 V unit substation feeds 480 V MCC’s. Medium Voltage (MV) cables from the Central Region are connected to electrical substations at the surface of each shaft for local power distribution. Electrical System Cryo Plant Distribution • Cryo Plants Located in Surface Buildings • Medium Voltage (MV) cables from the Central Region are connected to electrical substations at the surface of each shaft for local power distribution. • 35 k. Low Voltage Power Distribution at Shafts and Tunnels • 35 k. V Switchgear at each shaft will dual feed unit substations at the base and surface of each shaft with 34. 5 k. V/480 V transformers. • The unit substation will feed a main 480 V distribution panel which will subfeed 480 V panel boards in the tunnel or surface buildings. • 480 V to 120 V/208 V step-down transformers will connect to the 480 V panel boards locally for low voltage power needs. Emergency/Standby Power Systems • Fire detection and alarm systems. • Exit sign illumination. • Emergency lighting. • Elevator car lighting. • Fire Command Station lighting. • Two-way fire department communication systems. • • Elevators, elevator equipment, and elevator machine room/controller cooling. • Air handling systems for the tunnels and elevator lobbies. • Lighting for HVAC mechanical equipment rooms. o Cranes, Sump/Lift Pumps.
