BISJ Values • These values guide our curriculum • Our values and our curriculum should allow our students to develop as learners and develop the attributes that will aid future success • For almost all BISJ students that means helping them to the next step on their learning journey, most often to study at Colleges and Universities around the world.

The IGCSE & KS 3 • The curriculum offered in Key Stage 3 (KS 3) is designed to give students a wide range of experiences that will prepare them for the IGCSE and beyond • It also follows the principle of the IB in developing a well rounded student • Based on the National Curriculum of England • Assessment using levels 7 to 1 • Key is the learning process as described by the Learning Descriptors. These do not change over the whole of the students learning in the Secondary Section
KS 4 IGCSE (Year 10 -11) IGCSE at BISJ • IGCSE is both challenging and internationally recognised • The IGCSE curriculum we offer ensures students have the opportunity to develop the breadth and depth needed to enter the IB years pathways and achieve success there • The key features of the IGCSE are that they are externally assessed by The Cambridge International Examinations board, that they are robust, and that they are (as they mirror the assessment experience students will undergo) the best preparation for the IB years English Literature & Language Arabic World Literature Arabic French Spanish Business Studies Geography History Co-Ordinated Science (Biology Chemistry Physics) PE Maths Additional Maths Visual Arts Theatre Music
Post IGCSE • We ensure that all of our students have a pathway to go forward in the school. • Entry to the IB years pathways is dependent on students achieving acceptable learning descriptors, attendance, punctuality and behaviour record over the course of the two year IGCSE programme. • We value the learning behaviours that students apply as much as, if not more than, the outcomes they generate. • We have a pathway structure to meet the needs of all of our students.
Pathway 1: Pathway 2: Pathway 3: All students Students need a minimum of 5 C’s to be eligible Students need a minimum of 3 B’s and 3 C’s to be eligible BISJ Diploma + IB Certificates If students are one grade under in a subject we may consider in special circumstances BISJ Diploma + full IBDP
IGCSE to IB Years Entry Requirements • The principle factor in choosing to offer study post IGCSE are the students record of learning descriptors, attendance, and behaviour record. • HL Subjects (3) –Students need a B grade or higher in their IGCSE for automatic entry HL entry in the IB years • SL Subjects (3) –Students need a C grade or higher in their IGCSE for automatic SL entry in the IB years • Students need a minimum of 3 B’s and 3 C’s to be eligible for the full Diploma Programme (Pathway 3) • Students need a minimum of 5 C’s to be eligible for the certificate programme (Pathway 2) • Students who do not achieve this level of exam success will be advised on an individual basis and may follow the BISJ diploma pathway without any outside exam certification (Pathway 1)
IGCSE & IB years Pathways – the Languages • If a student successfully studied a foreign or second language at the IGCSE and wanted to continue it in the IBDP, they would be expected to take it at the Language B standard • If a student successfully studied a first language at the IGCSE and wanted to continue it in the IBDP, they would be expected to take it at the Language A standard • Ab Initio would be for students who have not taken the subject at the IGCSE or have no significant prior learning in the subject
