hat is an illuminated letter? An illuminated letter is usually the first letter of a page or paragraph and is decorated to enhance a page of writing. The term illuminate means to fill with light, which is achieved by using gold or silver while the rest of the text is in black.
What does an illuminated letter look like? Illuminated letters use images such as plants, animals, humans, or mythical creatures modified to be placed around the letter or to make up the letter itself.
