IFIC contribution to the ILC accelerator Daniel Esperante
IFIC contribution to the ILC accelerator Daniel Esperante Pereira On behalf of the Group of Accelerator Physics (IFIC) 7/5/2020 D. Esperante – ILC Spain meeting 1
IFIC, GAP (Group of Accelerator Physics) • IFIC: – Joint centre between the Spanish Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC) and the University of Valencia devoted to research in Nuclear, Particle and Astroparticle Physics and its applications to Medical Physics and to other fields of Science and Technology – More 250 people among which scientific and technical staff • GAP (Group of Accelerator Physics): – Small group devoted to particle accelerators R&D: 6 people – Our main lines of work: • RF laboratory: R&D on high-gradient accelerators • Accelerators for medical applications • Our perspectives with respect to ILC: – We are very pleased and happy to collaborate in the development of the accelerator – Our role: we prefer being a secondary actor in partnership with other larger group/institution (CIEMAT, ALBA, ESS, …): technical, scientific, management, etc. partnership 7/5/2020 D. Esperante – ILC Spain meeting 2
IFIC contribution to the ILC accelerator • HG-RF facility for “warm” accelerators: – – • Project in collaboration with CERN High-power S-Band (3 GHz) waveguide network: • 2 test slots & 40 MW peak, High repetition rate 400 Hz, S-Band waveguide system in Ultrahigh Vacuum (10 -9 mbar) • Real-time acquisition system • Power modulators from JEMA Current activities and plans: – – Testing the first compact high-gradient cavity for protontherapy (CERN contract agreement) Collaboration in the high-gradient X-Boxes RF systems (X-Band) Designing a compact X-Band injector for an X-FEL application AVI: development of RF components Bunker Waveguidenetwork Modulator and Klystrons HG-RF facility Laboratory integration 7/5/2020 D.
