In grade 5 you went back in time… Not a 150 Million Years ago when the Dinosaurs roamed the earth. But… 2000 years ago – “Ancient Times”

Coming out of very simple times, civilizations started to emerge for the first time. Leaders stood up and began to think about other people and how the human race could have a better life. They wondered about law and order. They thought about curing people with medicine. They wanted a peaceful life for all citizens.

Why live in caves when we can live in great structures that protect us from the wind and rain! People should have rights. People should have a government to help them. Life shouldn’t be all work – there’s music and theatre to entertain us. Life is great for those of us at the top!

People conquered other lands for wealth and jewels. Inventions to better humankind were Replaced by inventions for battle! it was now every person for themselves.

So How did Society Turn It Around? The next time period is called: The Renaissance People longed for Ancient Greece, a time and place known for its great thinkers.

In grade 6 you looked at First Nations cultures before and after contact with Europeans.

The land was divided up by Aboriginal area

Looking for silks and spices, explorers thought they landed in India.

In grade 7 the focus was Europeans settling in New France.

Learning goals of grade 7 • What and where is New France? Who lives there? • Why did settlers come to New France and what was life like? • - Compare the interests of various groups – Settlers, Aboriginals, British, Fur Traders

Then the British showed up and created BNA until the patriots protested

Learning goals of grade 8 • To describe political factors, key personalities and significant events that led to the creation of the Dominion of Canada in 1867. • - Compare the Canada of 1867 to the Canada today.
