What is leadership… Leadership involves: Being ready to think carefully about any issues that are being discussed Giving your full attention to issues even if they do not directly affect you Being careful to consider how decisions will affect everyone (even if that means that the final decision does not give you personally the best deal) Giving up your time to support others Being reliable Active listening Being ready to say what you think – even when you are nervous To be a leader you do not need to: Have all of the answers Always have creative ideas Be very confident – but you do have to be willing to say what you think in the SLC meetings

What is the SLC? The SLC is our new whole School Leadership Council. If

What is the SLC? The SLC is our new whole School Leadership Council. If elected you will have the opportunity to remain on this group throughout your time at Crofton Academy. There will be 3 representatives elected from each year group. Students in your year group and staff at the Academy will vote for who they would like to represent them. The purpose of the SLC is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organising and carrying out school activities and community projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the SLC is the voice of the student body.

How do I apply? Collect an application form from your group tutor or download from the Values stream or Year Group stream on Google Classroom. Tell us why you want to be part of the SLC. Speak to a parent or carer / your group tutor/ Mrs Rostron or Mrs Ashton if you have any questions or would like help with your application. Hand in your completed application form to your group tutor or Mrs Rostron or submit using the assignment on Google Classroom by Tuesday 13 th April 2021.

Will you be the next student leader? Anyone can apply to be part of the SLC but remember that you are making a commitment to part of the group long term. If you have been part a student leadership group before you are still eligible to apply. There will be additional leadership opportunities shared with you throughout the next term.
