IEEE P 1904. 3 TF Radio over Ethernet update Jouni Korhonen IEEE 802. 1 TSN @Dallas 2015 1
Disclaimer • This is not an official IEEE 1904 WG output; just an informal update what is happening regarding Radio over Ethernet in IEEE P 1904. 3. 2
What is IEEE 1904. 3 TF and Ro. E? • IEEE 1904. 3 specifies transport protocol and an encapsulation format i. e. , Ro. E for transporting time-sensitive wireless radio related application streams between two endpoints over Ethernet-based transport networks. • IEEE 1904. 3 also specifies mappers from current CPRI to native Ro. E. 3
Updates since Waikoloa. . • Two meetings held (one virtual and one f 2 f). • Bi-weekly calls still running. • The first draft spec was estimated to be out by October. Goal achieved, but the draft is still in _very_ draft state i. e. , D 0. x versions circulated. 4
Current status • Major simplifications to Ro. E header done: – Larger flow and packet type spaces. – No combined timestamps and sequence numbers on a single flow -> use either one. – Separate data and control packet families. • Mappers getting into shape (how to map existing ”well behaving” CPRI to native Ro. E and vice-versa): – ”description language” for describing the payload. – ”description language” for describing the control word processing and selective transport of control words. – Two modes: ”nearly” structure agnostic and structure aware. • Few more rounds ahead before D 1. 0. . 5
