Current IDS e. Journal Availability Service • The Good – Allows for searching of all Project libraries from within ILLiad – Shows holdings information for each library (e. Journals and Print holdings – if print was added to Serials Solutions) – Has licensing information for each publisher – Is currently the only way to access this type of information – No member work to update the ejournal database

Current IDS Availability Service • The Bad – A lot of work to update licenses – currently an annual process – No one is really happy with the solution – it’s clunky – Staff time – staff needs to check 866 fields for each publisher’s holdings and licensing information

Goal is to make this easy, and identify appropriate ILL rights.

Future of ALIAS Problem Statement The main problem is that OCLC WRS/ILLiad workflow lacks essential tools for effective article requests, i. e. : • Direct Request for Articles • Discovery of libraries actual journal holdings (and provisions); • license terms are local, except for libraries adding ILLOK to summary holdings (LHR) • library holdings in print, microform, and electronic are not FRBR-ized, so borrowing libraries lack the tools they need for efficient article resource sharing.

Future of ALIAS & IDS Service Solution • Develop the IDS Service in partnership with Atlas & OCLC as a service that can be utilized by WRS & ILLiad libraries. • Explore adding local ERM functionality to the generic ERM service.

Cooperative Electronic Resource Management • Develop ALIAS generic licensing model as a cooperative service model, similar to the Copyright Evidence Registry. 29
