Identity, Privilege, and Inequalities among Women

Female Gender Inequalities in The U. S. Throughout the world women face many inequalities in their lifetime. Women face the gender pay gap, which only continues to increase through the course of their life as they get older. Statistics show that women are paid 78% of what men are paid. Women typically earn 90% of what men do until they reach the age of 35, then their wages start to decline. For women who are of a different ethnicity and/or elder, Their pay wage is even lower than that of a white female. Women make up 51% percent of America’s population. Only 20% of the U. S. government’s senate is made up of women. Our text book states, that it will take women nearly 500 years to reach fair representation in the U. S. government.

In America, along with other countries it can be difficult facing the oppression of sexism. Women face over-sexualization, unfair wages, and sexual harassment. It is a large topic in America, we see these things happen on daily basis’s, for example, during the 2016 political campaign, many people held the belief that a female president would be unfit for our country. There are several gender role guidelines, that many people believe we should follow. These guidelines are put in place to conform to the roles of either masculinity or femininity leaving out the in between.

Female Gender inequalities in Other Countries In other countries, women still face harsh inequalities. They are forbidden to drive. Strict clothing requirements. Denied access to education. Child custody rights Citizenship

Women in other countries also reap the harsh realities of being female. In Saudi Arabia only men are permitted to drive, females can’t even ride their bicycles. Many countries forbid women to have an unveiled face, they are required to wear burqas. Some places won’t allow women the custody of their child, custody is typically only granted to the father.

Although times are changing and it may seem women are gaining equality, it is still undefined across the world. The roles between men and women are grained into our society and have impacted our future for many more years to come.
