Today’s lesson is - TENSE Unit- 2, Lesson- 1: Tenses and Their Aspects.

Learning outcomes At the end of the lesson, students will be able to. . . Ø define tense. Ø identify the classification of tenses. Ø identify the definition of three main tenses. Ø identify the basic form of all tenses. Ø identify the forms of tenses in different sentences.

A. Read the following passage and underlined the verbs: Azam is one of my best friends. He lives in Canada now. He often emails me. I received one email this morning. I will answer the email soon.

The word ‘Tense’ comes from the Latin word ‘Tempus’ which means time. So Tense denotes the time of action of a verb. Look at the pictures and try to say: played plays will play

According to the function of time, tenses are divided into three kinds. Past Present Future


Note: Tense refers to the time of action or state indicated by a verb. Ø The Present Tense (refers to present state or defferent modes of present action( Ø The Past Tense (refers to past state or defferent modes of past action( Ø The Future Tense ( refers to futute state or defferent modes of future action ( Each of these tenses has four defferent aspects. They are simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous.
