Class 4 News – Summer 2017 Dear Parents, Welcome back to the third (and final) term of Year 4. I hope that you have all had a lovely Easter break and that your child is looking forward to this term. Again, it is a very busy term with a lovely topic and some very good opportunities for lots of great learning and progress that can be made. I will be expecting the children to work hard and I have lots prepared for them. New Barn was a fantastic experience and enjoyed by all. The children were incredibly well behaved and even went to sleep relatively quickly! The learning was great and everybody got involved with all the activities. So, well done Year 4 – I’m very proud of you all! Staffing continues to be the same. I will be teaching the class. Mrs Aspinwall will be the class Teaching Assistant each morning. Mr Waterhouse will be teaching each Thursday and Friday morning and Luke from Multi Sports will also be supporting my PE lesson on a Thursday afternoon. How can you continue to help your child at home? Reading – as in previous terms Please continue to complete some form of reading work at home with your child as often as you can. This could be hearing them read, it could be asking them questions about what they have read, it could be asking them to summarise what they have already read or predict what may come next. It could be looking at the language an author has used to describe something or perhaps you could compare different books by the same author or on the same theme. Please also look at your child’s reading targets – this may help with ideas. Additionally, please pop in after school one day for more guidance if you feel you need to. Homework will continue to be set on a regular basis and more information will follow shortly. Targets Over Easter I have updated and revised the children’s targets. These will be available for you to see in their diaries. I would urge you please to read these and support the children to achieve their targets. These are designed to support your child to achieve the next stage in their learning and practice at home is vital in order to be able to achieve them. The Learning Platform Your child continues to have access to the Learning Platform. I will be adding activities during the next few weeks and will let the children know when they are available. The children also still have access to Education City and Purple Mash at home and are welcome to use these as and when they would like to, in addition to when homework is set. Additionally, LEXIA is also available at home and is having a fantastic effect on the children’s spelling in Literacy and Writing activities. We also have a fantastic new Maths app called Flurrish that supports the children’s times table and number bond development. You can access this app as a guest if you go to http: //www. flurrished. com/numberfy. apk from an android device. This app can only be used on android devices. Please have a practice at home if you can. Topics and themes Our third topic of the year is called ‘Inside and Out’. This is generally based around Science themes and will cover the human body including the skeleton, muscles, organs, teeth and how to stay healthy. This curriculum pamphlet provides details of the topic and this information will also be available on the school website. PE This half-term PE lessons will take place on Monday and Thursday afternoons. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times (black shorts, purple t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers). I would also encourage you to ensure that, if the weather is colder, the children have tracksuit bottoms, a black sweat top/jumper and trainers within their PE bag. Please remember, if you have any concerns about your son/daughter or any questions/queries then please feel free to call into class after school to speak to me. Many thanks, Mr Dicker
