n Charlie Chaplin an English actor, director, producer, and composer. He is best remembered as “the Tramp, ” a character he immortalized in more than 70 motion pictures beginning in 1914. Chaplin’s gift was his ability to touch his audience deeply while playing the childlike clown in silent film.

n Bob Marley Jamaican singer and songwriter first became known as one of the leaders of reggae music in the late 1960 s. During his lifetime, Marley's music came to be closely associated with the movement toward black political independence. His music has remained highly popular, and for many it has continued to symbolize the hopes of the downtrodden for a better life outside urban slums.

William Shakespeare n the greatest writer in the history of the English language. He wrote many famous plays and poems in the late 1500 s and early 1600 s n

LINDA ELLIS n Linda works for the top executives of a very large and successful corporation with a strict and tense working environment.

She began to watch how the priorities in many lives had become, what can be considered misaligned. n

§ It seemed to her that the bosses were worrying to much about things which are inconsequential in the scope of life.

She wrote” “The Dash during a lunch break which forever changed her life. n

It began when she faxed a copy of it to a syndicated radio show in Atlanta. n

The Dash touched millions of lives and literally taken a life of its own by traveling all over the world. n

Ellis calls it an uncomplicated poetry in a complicated world. n

She first truly realized the significance of the poem during the Columbine High School memorial gathering and during her father’s n

April 20, 1999 n. Massacre in n Colorado High School

n In Littleton, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, two heavily armed students open fire in the crowded Columbine High School cafeteria. During the next few hours, they kill twelve of their classmates and one teacher.

Twenty-three others are wounded. The killers, Eric n Harris and Dylan Klebold, plant about 30 bombs inside the school before committing suicide in the school library.

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone

from the beginning… to the end. He noted that first came the date of her birth

and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth… And only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own; the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spent our dash.

So think about this long and hard… Are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left. That could still be rearranged.

If you could just slow down enough to consider what’s true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile… Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy’s being read with your life’s action to rehash… Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
