Operating Model • The desired level of business process integration and business process standardization for delivering goods and services to customers. - Integration = the extent to which business units share data - standardization = the extent to which business units will perform the same processes the same way • Focus on the operating model rather than on individual business strategies, for better guidance for developing ICT capabilities 2

Four operating models 3

Enterprise architecture • The organizing logic for business process and IT infrastructure capabilities reflecting the integration and standardization requirements of the firm’s operating model • Long-term view of a company’s processes, systems and technologies so that individual projects can build capabilities – not just fulfill immediate needs 4

One-page enterprise architecture What is on these architectures? • Core business processes - Small set of enterprise processes needed to execute the operating model and responde to market opportunities • Shared data driving core processes - Shared data across different processes • Key linking and automation technologies - Generic integration technologies enabling integration and standardization (middleware, portals etc. ) • Key customers - Major customer groups served by the foundation for execution 5
