©G 106(GROUP 2) Image Design
©G 106(GROUP 2) • Introduction • There a lot of design programs out there that specialize on one individual feature. For most of us though, we just need a single program that can cover most (if not all) of our needs. • This section covers these programs. With any of these free applications, you get a tool covering a wide range of features (from screen capture, color picker to an image editor among other things). As most features are covered under one roof, you won't need to install and run too many programs (for every different tool that you need). It's simply up to you to decide which of these applications have the right combination of features for your needs.
©G 106(GROUP 2) • As with most all-in-one applications though, the following are designed to meet the needs of most average users who prefer one program that can cover as many basic functions as possible. If you need more advanced features (within a specific design tool), you might want to check out other recommended software products in the articles found under the
©G 106(GROUP 2) Qualities of a Good Design
©G 106(GROUP 2) 1. Sustainable • The problem with sustainable design is that it's easier to talk about than to do properly. Unfortunately, green washing and marketing spin are often substitutes for real change. • Architects can't hide anymore. The word is out. The buildings we design and the energy they require generate more carbon dioxide than cars. Yes, the auto makers that we all complain about have less impact than architects and their clients. It's time to do the right thing.
©G 106(GROUP 2) 2. Accessible • What is good design if it's only available to some. Here in the US, detailed codes dictate that our built environment be accessible to those with disabilities. Often times it is important to look beyond these minimum standards. 3. Functional • This should be the simplest attribute of good design, but it is often the hardest to achieve. Apple makes products that look great, but at their core, they are successful by creating easy to use hardware and software that surpasses the competition.
4. Well Made ©G 106(GROUP 2) • Architects don't make anything. Our say in how well a building is built is limited to a set of instructions we provide. The end people that actually build it have little to no actual interaction with the architect. This means our instructions better be good, and just as important, easy to understand. 5. Emotionally Resonant • People rarely forget the feeling of walking into the Pantheon in Rome. Now compare that to the bland sameness found in the bulk of our suburban developments. • Not every building can be the Pantheon, but every design should be an attempt to stir the senses.
6. Enduring ©G 106(GROUP 2) • Buildings need both structural and aesthetic longevity. It's important to innovate, but you don't want a design that looks outdated before that last coat of paint dries. • The time frame for enduring is uncertain. No question the Pantheon (126 A. D. ) is enduring. Is Gehry's Guggenheim (1997) in Bilbao? 7. Socially Beneficial • Whether you like it or not, all architecture is public architecture. Architects have a responsibility to look both within and beyond the walls of our buildings to see what we can do to help.
©G 106(GROUP 2) 8. Beautiful • Beauty is subjective, right? 9. Ergonomic • Buildings must relate to the scale of the people that inhabit them. Often this idea is lost in the array of 3 D computer modeling technologies that architects use these days. Stop and take a step back. Put a person in that model. Even if they're digital.
©G 106(GROUP 2) 10. Affordable • This is one of the hardest for architects. The reason is simple. Architects typically get clients by waiting for the phone to ring. Someone with money, land an idea that wants our services. This client type represents a small portion of society, yet makes up almost all of an architect's clientèle. • Creating affordable architecture is more difficult. It involves entrepreneurship on the part of the architect. An upfront investment to invent an affordable solution that the masses can afford.
©G 106(GROUP 2) Image Generation
©G 106(GROUP 2) So what do we mean by dynamic image generation? From a visitor's point of view they arrive at your web site to be presented with an image which has been specially created for them. Behind the scenes what's happened is that our web has generated the image on-the-fly in response to the page request. One particularly common application is to insert uploaded image files into a web site. This image upload allows the files to be resized and styled to fit in with the site. Image processing is what Image Glue is all about.

IMAGE DESIGN AND GENERATION WALLACE ESTABAYA NALOG NANO
ALL ABOUT IMAGE DESIGN • Designing image is an issue related to identity or more precisely about identification, which can be understood as the transformation that takes place when someone or something assumes an image. This act of assuming images is always dynamic, because it is constantly bridging social images to personal ones, enabling human beings or entities to define themselves.
IMAGE DESIGN IS ABOUT… • • • Making dreams Making Beauty Finding Making Differentation Designing Power
QUALITIES OF A GOOD DESIGN FEASEWABES • Functional - This should be the simplest attribute of good design, but it is often the hardest to achieve. • Enduring - - Buildings need both structural and aesthetic longevity. It's important to innovate, but you don't want a design that looks outdated before that last coat of paint dries. • Accessible - built environment be accessible to those with disabilities. • Sustainable
QUALITIES OF A GOOD DESIGN • Ergonomic - Put a person in that model. Even if they're digital. • Well Made - This means our instructions better be good, and just as important, easy to understand. • Affordable - Creating affordable architecture is more difficult. It involves entrepreneurship on the part of the architect. An upfront investment to invent an affordable solution that the masses can afford. • Beautiful - Beauty is subjective • Environmentally friendly - Design to use as few resources as possible. • Socially Beneficial - Architects have a responsibility to look both within and beyond the walls of our buildings to see what we can do to help.
ALL ABOUT IMAGE GENERATION • Images may be two-dimensional, such as a photograph, screen display, and as well as a three-dimensional, such as a statue or hologram. They may be captured by optical devices – such as cameras, mirrors, lenses, telescopes, microscopes, etc. and natural objects and phenomena, such as the human eye or water. • The word image is also used in the broader sense of any two-dimensional figure such as a map, a graph, a pie chart, or a painting.
VOLATILE IMAGE • One that exists only for a short period of time. This may be a reflection of an object by a mirror, a projection of a camera obscura, or a scene displayed on a cathode ray tube.
MENTAL IMAGE • Exists in an individual's mind, as something one remembers or imagines. The subject of an image need not be real; it may be an abstract concept, such as a graph, function, or "imaginary" entity. For example, Sigmund Freud claimed to have dreamed purely in auralimages of dialogs.
STILL IMAGE • A single static image, as distinguished from a kinetic image. This phrase is used in photography, visual media and the computer industry to emphasize that one is not talking about movies, or in very precise or sophistic technical writing such as a standard.
FILM STILL • A photograph taken on the set of a movie or television program during production, used for promotional purposes.
• Sketchup was created to be a 3 D modeling program that is powerful, but easy to use. Most people think it was originally created by Google, but actually, it was first brought to us by @Last Software, a tech company co-founded in 1999 by Brad Schell. With an original release date in August 2000, Schell and his team developed Sketch. Up as a 3 D modeling tool for Architects, designers, and filmmakers.
• Sketch. Up from @Last Software has been driven by the growing need among design professionals for a more intuitive and accessible 3 D modeling program. The core of Sketch. Up is an interface in which the user simply draws the edges of the desired model in 3 D space and the software automatically “fills” the shapes to create 3 D geometry.
• After the successful launch of Sketchup, @last wanted to allow people to be able to place the models they’ve created in Sketchup into Google Earth. They collaborated with Google to develop a plug-in for Google Earth, to allow people to “geo-locate” their models in Google Earth.
