FY – 05 (2 - tank scenario) Ice. Top Workshop Ice. Cube Collaboration meeting, Bartol-UD • General principle: decouple tank deployment from drilling as much as possible • Out-years will deploy tanks in groups of 8 • 2 -tank cycle for 04/05 season only: – – – March 22, 2004 Matched to station’s ability to provide water Tank deployment must begin early November Temp C/H not available until late December Drill Rod well in January Run power and freeze-control cables from MAPO Cables for DOMs to be installed after temp C/H is installed Tom Gaisser 2

Cube Collaboration meeting, Bartol-UD • Tanks, DOMs ROS early November. • Unpack, pre-assemble tanks; DOMs. – Use Jamesway on construction row as last year? • 2 -tank cycle – Phase A, 10 days: Install 2 tanks with DOMs; connect to power and freeze-control; fill with water; close tanks 2 days for equilibration; cannot test DOMs at this point; start second cycle at day 9 – Phase B, 20 days: Open tanks for initial freeze; monitor freezing during this phase – Phase C, 2 days: Cover & close tanks; backfill March 22, 2004 Tom Gaisser 3

04/05 Ice. Top season (cont. ) Ice. Top Workshop Ice. Cube Collaboration meeting, Bartol-UD • • 4 overlapping 32 -day cycles = 8 weeks E. g. first fill on Nov 20 close last tank Jan 16 Freeze monitoring continues after tanks closed Cables for DOMs to be connected after temp counting house is available and after cable trenching is done. – Connection is to terminal boxes on sides of tanks, so provision for access must be made if this occurs after backfill, as is likely. • Test & operate DOMs when DOM cables ready March 22, 2004 Tom Gaisser 4
