ICD-10 -CM/PCS ICD-10 consists of two parts, CM and PCS: ICD-10 -CM is used for diagnosis coding in all health care settings. It describes left vs. right, initial vs. subsequent encounter, routine vs. delayed healing, and non-union vs. mal-union. ICD-10 -PCS is used for inpatient procedure coding in hospital settings. It provides detailed information on procedures and distinct codes for all types of devices. CPT coding is used for outpatient and office procedures. It is not affected by the transition to ICD-10.

Partial Code Freeze On Oct. 1, 2012 there will be only limited code updates to both ICD-9 -CM and ICD-10 -CM/PCS code sets. On Oct. 1, 2013 there will be only limited updates to the ICD-10 code sets. These limited updates will capture new technology and new diseases only. On Oct. 1, 2014 regular updates to ICD-10 will begin, ending the freeze.
