Overview What is IFSET? What does IFSET do? How does IFSET work? User input for IFSET Example

What is IFSET? ICAO FUEL SAVINGS ESTIMATION TOOL - Simple to use and scientific

What is IFSET? ICAO FUEL SAVINGS ESTIMATION TOOL - Simple to use and scientific defendable States will begin reporting on fuel savings from operational improvements in 2012. Not all States have the ability to quantify these savings.

What does IFSET do? Allows those States without modelling and/or measurement capabilities to estimate

What does IFSET do? Allows those States without modelling and/or measurement capabilities to estimate fuel savings from operational improvements. Consistent with CAEP-approved GHG models. Consistent with Global Air Navigation Plan. Easy-to-use / minimal data requirements.

What does IFSET do? (Cont. ) The tool can estimate: Ø Effects of shortening

What does IFSET do? (Cont. ) The tool can estimate: Ø Effects of shortening / eliminating level segments on departure and arrival. Ø Effects of shorter routes (either in time or distance). Ø Effects of cruising at different altitudes. Ø Effects of reduced taxi times.

What does IFSET not do? The tool does not replace detailed modelling or measurement

What does IFSET not do? The tool does not replace detailed modelling or measurement of fuel consumption already available in a State.

How does IFSET work? Pre-compute aircraft performance Ø Level, climb and descent fuel consumption

How does IFSET work? Pre-compute aircraft performance Ø Level, climb and descent fuel consumption Ø By group of aircraft type Ø In 1000 foot intervals

User input for IFSET Fleet mix defined for baseline and postimplementation scenario Ø Aircraft

User input for IFSET Fleet mix defined for baseline and postimplementation scenario Ø Aircraft type group Ø “Remaining flight distance”(as a surrogate for weight) User selects “elements” to define the baseline and “new” procedure Tool estimates the change in total fuel consumption between the 2 scenarios
