Why Enterprise class TS 1155 Tape drive vs LTO 8? Reliability- Three times better than LTO ——> Fewer drives need to be replaced over time (300 K load/unloads vs 100 K with LTO) - Designed for 24 x 7 use - Reinforced tape cartridge (can withstand a 1 meter drop onto a tile floor while remaining operable with leader pin in place) Performance and capacity - Faster drive Up to 40% fewer drives needed* (Random Access Ordering can improve the seektime between files on tape by 40% to 60%) 25% faster access to a file over LTO with High Resolution Tape Directory and Largest data buffer (2 GB vs 1 GB) - Highest single cartridge capacity 25% fewer cartridges needed compared to LTO 8 (native 15 TB capacity over 12 TB) Investment protection - Re-purpose TS 1140/TS 1150 drives as needed between Mainframe and Open systems (LTO does not support Mainframe attach) *based on 100 Mi. B files and 1% random recall of repository in 60 hours. Reduction in drives is workload dependent. © Copyright IBM Corporation 2017 Accelerate with IBM Storage.

Spectrum Scale/Spectrum Archive FLAPE User Experience Demonstration Generate customer interest for Spectrum Scale/Spectrum Archive with a live demonstration of an end user experience viewing videos. This event demonstrates combining FLASH, the quickest data access time, and Tape, the fastest data stream time, to provide a cost effective, seamless active archive user experience. The live demonstration illustrates how this architected solution can recall files transparently to the end user 3. Spectrum Archive and Spectrum Scale TCT / Co. S Demonstration Customers that have projects requiring a cost-effective archiving solution that supports storing long term, infrequently accessed data on Tape and in the Cloud. This demo is intended to help drive and create new opportunities to show that long term, infrequently accessed data can be written to Tape using Spectrum Archive and also be stored in the Cloud using Spectrum Scale TCT. Benefits of this solution include ability to store data economically onsite and also store a copy in the Cloud for redundancy. Recalls can be done from Tape which does not incur retrieval costs. Example of customer use case: Customer has two locations and have a need to store their infrequently accessed data on least cost form of storage. Latency is not an issue. Storing the data on tape will be the least cost solution. However, they need to store another copy offsite electronically. The end goal is to be able to replicate between sites and store on tape at both locations once the network between sites is in place. The interim solution is to store a copy in the Cloud.
