IB Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

IB Diploma: Program Overview
Junior Year Requirements: Policies and Procedures Handout (Return the signed slip to me by Friday 9/2/2016) Extended Essay: See handout CAS: See handout TOK: Introduced during junior year, completed during first semester senior year Exams: Typically, at least one SL exam, maximum two SL exams with Internal Assessments
Extended Essays • Find a topic • Get a teacher mentor/supervisor • Review the IB requirements for EE by reading the EE handbook (found on my website and in Managebac) • Begin formal research (CSUF library visitation and training on a Friday after school coming in October or November date TBD) • Develop research question • Write outline • Write paper; First draft expected by end of junior year (*latest September of senior year) • 1 st/2 nd draft due by the beginning of senior year • 3 rd draft as needed • Final paper due in November of senior year
CAS Requirements more will be discussed in individual meetings • Real, purposeful activities with significant outcomes • Personal challenge – tasks must extend the student • Thoughtful consideration, such as planning, reviewing progress, and reporting • Reflection on outcomes and personal learning through portfolio on Managebac • Must offer experiential learning and follow the 5 CAS stages of Investigation, preparation, action, reflection, and demonstration • Have a goal or outcome • Vary in length • Be initiated by the student where possible • Vary in the amount of commitment by the student • Required to do activities in all three areas; Creativity, Activity and Service • Must be participating in some CAS experiences continuously for a minimum of 18 months(weekly preferred) • Reflections of significant events and evidence are required on Managebac • CAS Project required: self initiated, planned in collaboration with others, at least 1 area of CAS and done for at least a month • All 7 learning outcomes met

Managebac. com • Used for Registration of courses and management of IB CAS/EE • Students are required to maintain a consistent Reflection log on Managebac updating every 2 -4 weeks. • Evidence for CAS will be uploaded/saved • Recording of language A and B Internal Assessments • Other Internal Assessments will be submitted as they move to online uploading • Communication with IB coordinator
Internal assessments and deadlines – Due dates established by individual teachers and me. Some will require submission to www. turnitin. com – Calendar will be released sometime in early October of internal IA deadlines. – They are due to IB for uploading in March and April so I will be collecting it all before that time. – English and second language recordings • English will be completed in November • World Languages completed in February-March • Schedules will be set up in October, you will be notified as soon as we finalize. NO rescheduling!
Malpractice Collusion: How to avoid it… • Discuss your work with others, but don’t give anyone a hard copy, and under no circumstances whatsoever give anyone an electronic copy. Plagiarism: How to avoid it… • You must reference your sources AND • You must make it clear which words are not your own AND • No extensive quotes; no very close paraphrasing Both result in no grade for the subject concerned and hence no Diploma for that session
Consequences You may lose the option of receiving the full diploma and being able to test in a subject this May if: • ANY internal or external requirements were not completed on time • ANY malpractice is discovered (especially after signing the declaration on the coversheet) • ANY disregard to the Learner Profile and the Mission of the IB. • If this happens there is no refund in the costs of the exams!
Grades IB subject grades are determined by IB and are based on: • Internal Assessment (teacher moderated) • External Assessment (IB examiner graded) • 1 -7 point scale TOK CAS Extended Essay Class grades • Based on Teacher grading guidelines and may be different than AP or IB grades • Include all required student work and exams and on time completion of required IB internal assessments. (detentions will be given) Included in determination of Diploma • Class grades do not change based on IB/AP grade received Anything not completed may result in a student not receiving a certificate for that subject and possibly the loss of the opportunity to receive the diploma. No refunds will be given for students’ failure to comply.
Requirements for Achieving the full IB Diploma? • • At least 24 points overall Grades in all six subjects (no N’s or E’s) plus EE and TOK All CAS requirements met (cleared by me) At least a grade of D or better in EE and TOK (no E’s) No grade of 1 in any subject No more than 2 marks of 2 in any subject No more than 3 marks of 3 or below in any subject 12+ points in HL, 9+ points in SL • Not judged by IB guilty of Malpractice.
Individual test schedule AP Schedule • 1 May through 12 May IB Schedule • Friday 28 April and the last day is Friday 19 May The potential for overlap is great. I will closely work with the AP coordinators to minimize conflicts. **I cannot make changes for sports or other competitions. .
2017 IB fees/AP fees, registration, refunds • IB Fees: $116. 00 per exam, $168. 00 for registration • These are non-refundable fees (any changes after November 1 will incur additional fees) • IB registration and payment of fees will be done October 1118, 2016 in the Activities office. • AP fees: $92. 00 per exam paid in Spring • You must know what exams you are going to take, no refunds will be offered!
Donations If you would be so inclined as to make a donation equivalent to $40 per exam (or whatever you are comfortable with donating) it would go a long way toward offsetting the expenses that Troy will incur. This can be added to your fee sheet you picked up tonight. There is no obligation to donate! We ship IB exams/IA all over the world to be graded.
