External Assessment: Paper 1 (25%) Writing paper • SL - 1 hr 15 min (for 250 -400 words) • HL - 1 hr 30 min (for 450 -600 words) At both levels, one task from a choice of three options with different text types and different themes.
External assessment: Paper 2 (50%) Listening & Reading paper • SL - Listening: 45 min + Reading: 1 hr • HL - Listening: 1 hr + Reading: 1 hr 3 audio passages and 3 reading texts for both levels, but at HL the listening texts will be longer and the reading texts more challenging. Length according to levels: • SL – Audio 1 = up to 2 min. . . Audio 2 = up to 3 min. . . Audio 3 = up to 4 min • HL –Audio 1 = up to 3 min. . . Audio 2 = up to 4 min. . . Audio 3 = up to 5 min
Individual oral asessment (25 %) • HL A conversation with the teacher, based on an extract from one of the literary works studied in class, followed by discussion based on one or more of themes from the syllabus. (30 marks) • SL A conversation with the teacher, based on a visual stimulus, followed by discussion based on an additional theme. (30 marks)
Structure of the Individual oral (SL) 12 -15 min. • Student receives 2 visual stimuli related to themes and chooses one. Can be a photo, a poster, an illustration or an advertisement. • Part 1: Preparation. 15 minutes. Supervised. • Part 2: Presentation. 3 – 4 minutes. Student describes and relates the visual stimulus to one of themes. • Part 3: Follow-up discussion. 4 – 5 minutes. Teacher engages the student in deeper discussion by asking open-ended questions. • Part 4: General discussion. 5 – 6 minutes. Teacher introduces at least one additional theme and involves the student into it (conversation).
Structure of the individual oral HL 12 – 15 min. • Based on a literary extract taken from the two books studied during the course. 2 extracts presented, one from each book. Student chooses 1(max. 300 words each extract). • Part 1: Preparation. 20 minutes. Supervised. • Part 2: Presentation. 3 – 4 minutes. Summarizing and describing the events or ideas present in the extract. Relating and contextualizing it to the literary work. • Part 3: Follow-up discussion. 4 – 5 minutes. Teacher engages the student in deeper discussion on the extract, expanding on ideas the student raised. • Part 4: General discussion. 5 – 6 minutes. General discussion on one or more of the five themes seen in the course (conversation).
