Research: the DP in Turkey • Conducted in 2014 • Sample was 761 students • All participants were Turkish • 385 females and 282 males
Research key findings: Cognitive demand • DP considered more demanding overall than Mo. NEP • All four DP subject areas individually were considered more demanding
Research key findings: Postsecondary outcomes • University performance: • DP students had significantly higher cumulative GPAs • DP students generally had higher course grades for all subject areas examined • Graduation rate of DP cohort 3 x higher than non-DP cohort
Research key findings: Qualitative findings • In focus groups, DP students displayed greater “motivation, engagement and critical awareness” • IB grads gained English skills and other academic skills (i. e. writing and analysis) from the DP “For example, one of the biggest skills we gained in IBDP is to answer a question fully and do this in the clearest and most concise way. This is very beneficial for me in the exams. For example, we write the answers underneath the question, so you should be able to answer the question directly. This is a skill I gained in high school; not high school actually but IBDP. ”
