IARU history • In March 1924 amateurs from Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA planned the International Amateur Radio Union • In April 1925 a Congress in Paris with amateurs from 23 countries in Europe, North and South America and Japan created IARU • first constitution adopted April 17, 1925 International Amateur Radio Union – Region 1 3 Working for the future of Amateur Radio
Today’s Structure • 3 autonomous regions (like ITU) working in accordance with the IARU Constitution • more than 150 Member Societies (95 in Region 1) • each Member Society has the responsibility of representing amateur radio within its own country or territory • each Member society represents its members in the IARU International Amateur Radio Union – Region 1 Working for the future of Amateur Radio 4
