I´d rather. . Raději bych. . Spojením I´d rather a infinitivu vyjadřujeme, čemu dáváme přednost, co preferujeme. I´d rather go to the cinema. V záporu = I'd rather not go to the cinema. I´d rather = I would rather

I´d rather. . Raději bych. . Obracíme-li se na jinou osobu, pak po vazbě I´d rather bude osobní zájmeno a čas minulý. Shall I stay here? - I'd rather you came with us. I'd rather you didn't tell anyone what I said. Do you mind if I smoke? - I'd rather you didn't.

I wish / if only Přací věty dělíme do dvou skupin: 1) přání pro přítomnost/budoucnost I wish (if only) the weather was better. - Kéž by to počasí bylo lepší (dnes, zítra. . . ). 2) přání vyjadřující spíše povzdech nad nějakým minulým dějem I wish (if only) he hadn’t done it. - Kéž by to neudělal. (ale on to udělal). Ve větách tohoto typu použijeme po wish (if only) čas předminulý.

Possible answers: 1) Your parents want you to go on holiday with them. I´rather stay at home. 2) There is an interesting film on TV but you had a lot of Homework. I´d rather watch TV. 3) Your granny has cooked roast pork with cabbage and dumplings but you feel full. I´d rather not eat. 4) Your friend wants to go home on foot. But you are very tired. I´d rather take a taxi or go by bus.
