Pros & Cons Pros: O If we’re to provide mobile devices such as: tablets, smart phones, etc. It would provide an advanced way for children of all ages to learn. They could learn better, work at a faster pace, and have almost everything and anything at the palm of their hands. Cons: O Since we’re providing everything at the palm of their hands, children would manipulate the resources they have. They won’t use it for educational purposes, but to interact with other students and pay attention to things that are not relevant to their education. Supervision would have to be provided.

Haley’s Personal Experience O At school, I tend to be an observer, and I catch people pull out their phones and play with them. They don’t want to get in trouble over something so ‘little’. Honestly, if they didn’t want to, they should just abide school rules and pay attention in class. None of them really know how to act their age. They treat things lightly, and in the real world, nobody would have patience for that kind of childish behavior that they display.

Access & Personal Security Access: O The school will provide the mobile devices. Personal Security: O Since we are using these mobile devices for school, students would not be able to bring their tablets and such. The school would have to provide, because jail broken devices would prove to be an issue, along with the applications on their devices. They would be limited to the things they would like to look up, and we would like to prevent viruses, unknown ads, and pop-ups from becoming an issue for their education.

Jasiana’s Personal Experience O I’ve used smart phones, tablets, etc. before. Both at school and at home, and I’ve realized that it all depends on what we are using it for. Some students at school can not be trusted to use a tablet because they horseplay, and they don’t know how to be responsible, mature, and grow up. They even lack respect to the adults that provide them with some pretty important tools. In fact, they end up stealing a TI-84 calculator and treat that like it is nothing. ‘Time and place for everything. ’

Disadvantages O Students tend to lie and rebel against teachers when it comes to monitoring their activity. O They would not concentrate due to interaction with other students on these devices. O Activity that does not pertain to their education, (music, non-educational games, media, etc. ) could become a distraction.

Disadvantages [Cont. ] O Teenagers would find a way to place things O O

Disadvantages [Cont. ] O Teenagers would find a way to place things O O that do not belong on the devices. Some students would contemplate on stealing the devices, try to take them home, or misplace them. Some students are probably too immature to be able to use the electronics in the correct way. Texting during class may occur. Horseplay, accidents, and fights could also occur.

Benefits, such as this, would introduce children into the advanced world. We’re introducing them to a new opportunity to become educated. The next generation would be in good hands with their improved capabilities, and learning would be fun for the young minds.

Cost Mobile devices are expensive, tablets and smart phones can be around $200 - $400. Although the school may provide them, there also desktops/laptops, smart boards, and television; all of them together would be double the expenses alone. The cost itself could become a disadvantage for the school.
