HISTORY Marang National High School was established on January 1, 1966 by boarding a room at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Marang with a total of 123 students. In the early stages of the establishment until May 21, 1997 the name of the school was Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Marang. From 1 June 1997, the name SMK Marang was changed to SMK Tengku Lela Segara. Mr. Sheikh Mohd bin Ali graduated from the College of Britanford and served as the first Headmaster in the school until the second term of 1966, then replaced by Mr. Adam bin Taib. In the early stages, the school was known as the School of Various Subjects since the beginning of the main subjects of the Arts and Art of Arts. At that time there were 6 teachers and 2 support staff. A total of 123 students followed the main subject. The school has its own building which was completed in June 1966 and was officially opened in 1968 by the Honorable Minister of Education, Encik Mohd Khir Johari. The new building consists of two classroom blocks, a canteen and four teachers' houses. In March 1996, the school established a Member of the Board of Directors and its first Chairman was Mr. Omar Khalid ADO Marang, then. By the end of 1970 the students in this school had occupied the first SPM Exam.

In 1973, the number of pupils increased to 736, so classroom and field requirements were important. The school grounds were completed in 1974 and additional buildings were used in 1976. These additional buildings contain two science laboratories rooms, a library, three classrooms and two corporate art workshops. In 1978, Pure Science Class (Syllabus Malaysia) was started in this school. To date, the number of pupils in this school is 1337 in 34 degrees. In 1982 the school started trading class according to current demand. In 1989 the D, E, and F blocks were built to accommodate the increase of students, especially the six-year students beginning in the year. The number of students continues to increase from time to time. SMKM schools have been upgraded to Grade A on 1 January 1992 as the number of students has exceeded 1500 SMKM Schools have achieved success in both curriculum and co-curricular activities at district, state and national levels.

The name of the school (SMKM) has been proposed to the new name of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Lela Segara (SMKTLS). The name 'Tengku Lela Segara' is the title of the honorific title from the Sultan of Terengganu (late Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Ibn Sultan Zainal Abidin) to the Marang District Officer who is the late YM Tengku Hassan bin Tengku Ali. He served as Marang District officer in 1960 -1963. As a distant district officer, he is very concerned about education. He has been working hard to ensure Marang District provides enough education opportunities for his community. Given the Marang District of the absence of Secondary School, YM Tengku Lela Segara has been trying to get a high school in this area. Her struggle eventually resulted in SMK Marang. Therefore, it is true that the first secondary school in Marang District was awarded the SMK Tengku Lela Segara District Officer. This name change took place in the days of Pn. Hjh. Ainun Jamilah bt. Mohd Ali became the principal (1994 -1997). Beginning in 2002, as a result of increased student growth, three new block buildings were constructed, Block G, H and I he had on the existing field site. As a result SMKTLS has gone missing. Along with the construction of the three new blocks, a new hall was also built to replace the open hall built with the cooperation of the PIBG. In order to replace the field being created as a new building on Block F, a replacement field was built in the valley (today's Dormitory site).

Demand for dormitories continues to rise year after year as the government decides to build a daily dormitory. In 2002, the New Dormitory was built on a new pitch ground. When Blocks G, H and I are fully completed in 2004 then the Village Dormitory is closed. The absence of a long field (2002 -2010) is an issue. The result of the push and struggle of the PIBG, then in 2011 the new football field was first built and completed in 2012. Starting in 2005, Terengganu State Government introduced Imtiaz, Elite and Premier schools. SMK Tengku Lela Segara was elected as one of the Premier Schools in Marang district besides SMK Bukit Sawa. Formula 1 -grade students are taken from UPSR candidates who have obtained at least 4 A 1 B results. Up to now (2013) Premier Classes are 15 classes (Tg. 1 - Tg. 5) as opposed to 54 classes all. In 2006 the computer lab was completed and started operating in 2007. When a school surau (built in collaboration with PIBG) was declared unsafe, then 2010 a new sura began to be built. Until now, the efforts to build a new surau are still in the process of raising funds. Since 1966, up to now 19 principals have served in this school.

When I in Form 5 (2016), my class teacher said “if you got 6. 0 pointer and less than that, you can get a graduation certificate in your SPM Trial”. After that, I feel so nervous and scare to score that pointer. In my target, I also want to graduate like my sister last year. I want to see my parents and my sisters happy and blessing that I got the good result successful. After my SPM Trial past, I also scared to know about my pointer result. Then, my class teacher announced a list of names that who will get the graduation certificate. Finally, my name was announce by my class teacher and I feel very proudly when I know my pointer is 5. 0.
