Multitasking in i. OS 11 • There are four components: • Slide Over = Move an App to one 25% of display. • Split View = split display in half to display 2 apps. • Picture-in-Picture = watch a video and use another App. • App Switcher = Allows quick switch between App already opened.

Use the Dock to work more apps simultaneously • The Dock allows instant open and switch apps from any app. • Customize the left side of the Dock with favorite apps. • On the right side, see apps that recently used & apps open on your i. Phone. • Find the Dock at the bottom of the Home screen. • To see the Dock while using an app: • swipe up with one finger from the bottom edge of the screen. • To customize the Dock with favorite apps: • touch and hold an app on the Home screen, • immediately drag it to the left side of the Dock. • To remove an app from the Dock: • touch and hold an app on the left side of the Dock, • immediately drag it off.

Slide Over • From the Dock 1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to invoke the Dock. 2. Tap and drag on an app in the Dock to invoke Multitasking mode. 3. Drag the app out of the Dock up to the screen.

Slide Over and Split View Apps • Allows an app floating over another app while keeping both in focus. • Move seamlessly between the two, as well as moving files and information. • Switching back to split screen view: • 1. Tap the top of the slid-over app, and vice versa. The i. Pad Pro allows up to two Slide Over apps active over a third app.

Use Multitasking on i. Pad • Work with two apps at the same time. • Answer emails while watching a video • Switch apps using gestures • To see the app switcher: (to see all open apps) 1. From the bottom edge of the screen, swipe up with one finger. 2. Or double-click the Home button 3. Swipe right with one finger to find and open a different app. • Switch apps: While using an app, swipe left or right with four or five fingers to switch to a previously used app. • Return to the Home screen: While using an app, pinch four or five fingers together on the screen.

Use two apps at the same time. • Drag an app out of the Dock to make a Slide Over • Drag it to the right or left edge of the screen to make a Split View. • Work on one app in Slide Over. • View two apps in Split View. • Watch a movie or use Face. Time in Picture, • All on the same screen.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration: • In 2015 alone more than 390, 000 people were injured and 3, 477 were killed in vehicular accidents caused by distracted driving. • Do Not Disturb While Driving is an extension of Apple's Do Not Disturb feature: • which limits notifications on demand or during a schedule you set up. • Along with limiting or muting notifications, • Do Not Disturb While Driving can also reply to contacts who send messages while you're driving, giving them a heads-up that you're on the road. • One of the most effective aspects of Do Not Disturb While Driving is that it can be set to turn on automatically.

Apple Maps - Do Not Disturb • Apple Maps new features: • Lane assist, • Speed limit, • “Do not disturb" while driving mode. • With "do not disturb" enabled: • No notifications or messages while the car is in motion. • If anyone texts you, they'll get an auto-reply that says “driving and will get back to them at destination”. • If it's an emergency, though, there is the option to break the "do not disturb. “ • Second call/text within 3 minutes from same phone. • A passenger can select "I'm not driving“. • Limited Notifications when Bluetooth to hands free. • Detailed maps of hundreds of airports and shopping centers.

Tap, Drag, and Drop i. Phone & i. Pad • Tap and drag files, text, and just about anything else wherever you need them. • Move layers in Photo. Shop. • Dragging text from a text message into the Maps app, quickly triggering a search. • Select multiple files with ease. (2 steps) • 1. Tap and drag one file, • 2. With a different finger, tap more files to add to the bundle. Apple has integrated drag and drop wherever they can, but it's up to App developers to add it to their apps software.

Screen Shots • Screenshot Preview • Taking a screenshot brings up a little preview in the lower left corner • that can drag and drop to share. • Screenshot Doodle • Tap the preview image, and you'll get a slate of tools to doodle and draw on the screenshot. • Example: To highlight a particular street intersection. • On the i. New Control Center The Control Center saw the biggest change with i. OS 11. The Control Center takes up a full page. Customize which controls you want to use. These Apps can't be disabled or moved around in Control Center. Manage the Control Center • In the Settings app: there's a section for choosing which features to access in the Control Center. • The Following Apps can be added to the Control Center. • Flashlight , Timer, Calculator, Camera, Accessibility Shortcut, Alarm, Apple TV Remote, Do Not Disturb While Driving, Guided Access, Home, Low Power Mode, Magnifier, Notes, Screen Recording, Stopwatch, Text Size, Voice Memos, Wallet. • Add all of the options to Control Center, or just what's most relevant to your usage habits. • Control Center also has expanded 3 D Touch access. A 3 D Touch on one of the icons brings up additional options. • Example: with the Music icon, play controls are accessible by default, but with a 3 D Touch, a bigger playback window opens up with song info and more granular control options.

Control Center -3 D Touch • 3 D Touch options are available for all of the Control Center settings that are more complex than just a simple toggle on/off button. • While the Control Center takes up the full display on the i. Phone, it works differently on the i. Pad. • A swipe up from the bottom of the screen opens up: • the App Switcher, • the Control Center is located on the right side of the display in both landscape and portrait mode.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth • Toggling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off within Control Center doesn’t turn them off. • Connecting to Wi-Fi is Easier. • Friends visit, share your Wi-Fi password with them by: • Holding your phone or tablet next to their device. • Works with i. Phones and i. Pads running i. OS 11.

Emergency SOS • Activate - press the power button on device five times in a row. • The phone can call: • emergency services • notify your emergency contacts • and send your location. • It also disables Touch ID on your phone, so an attacker can’t get access to data.

Set Up Emergency SOS • If you want the feature to call emergency services automatically without the need for an extra gesture, here's how to toggle it on: 1. Open the Settings app. 2. Scroll down to "Emergency SOS. " 3. Toggle ON "Auto Call. " To turn it OFF, toggle OFF Auto Call.

The i. Phone keyboard is smarter • Type anything and the built-in keyboard will suggest words recently viewed on your phone; • from your Messages app, • or Safari. • When a friend texts the name of a restaurant, it may be one of the first suggestions when searching for that restaurant on the web. • Ability to use Apple's default keyboard with just one hand. • To activate: • hold the emoji key • select one-handed typing to move all the keys closer to your thumb.

Navigate to Settings > General > i. Phone Storage. See exactly how much space is being taken up by all the media on your phone: Apps, Photos, Media (songs and videos), and everything else.

Notifications • All notifications: • both recent and missed • are in one place, • no separate tabs. • Pull down from the top of the screen to see everything at once.

Stop apps from begging for reviews • If you dislike the pop-up windows from apps constantly asking for a review. • Banish them forever. 1. Go to Settings, 2. Go to i. Tunes & App Store. 3. Tap the switch for In-App Ratings & Reviews.

Take Live Photos of video calls • During a Face. Time call - relive that moment in a image format. • To take a Live Photo of someone during a Face. Time call: 1. Press the white button in the bottom left corner of the screen. 2. Both participants need to have i. OS 11 running and Live Photos turned on for it to work. 3. The other person will get a notification that they've been Live Photo-ed. • Prevent someone from taking Live Photos of you by turning off the option in Face. Time's settings. • However, they can still use screen recording during a call (audio) and you won't be notified.

Type • Key Flicks. - regular keyboard overlaid with numbers and symbols on each letter. • Flick down on letter keys to enter: • numbers, • Symbols, • punctuation marks. • To get access to those symbols on the key: • press down on the key and slide your finger down. • the key will change from its stock symbol to the new one.

Important Note: • i. OS 11 is performance optimized for 64 -bit apps. • 32 -bit apps will need to be updated by the app developer to work with this version of i. OS. • I loaded these i. OS 11 and updates on a 6 -S Plus, a 5 S phone, and two 2017 9. 7 i. Pad with no problems.

i. OS 11 Power Drain? • How to improve i. Phone battery life. • Many users are now running i. OS 11. • One downside is decreased battery life. • Let’s take a look at the best ways to improve battery life on your i. Phone/ i. Pad.

1. Understand your battery usage • Settings → Battery • to check out the details of battery usage. • Last 24 Hours will be the default for showing what apps are using the most energy. • Tapping the small clock icon on the right hand side gives a detailed breakdown of how much time was spent on • screen use, • in the background for each app. • Look at ‘BATTERY LIFE SUGGESTIONS’ just above ‘BATTERY USAGE’. • A quick, actionable ways to reduce battery drain.

2. Low Power Mode • Low Power Mode isn’t new. • The feature works by suspending: • mail fetch, • background app refresh, • auto downloads, and more. • Turn on Low Power mode under: • Settings, General, Battery.

i. OS 11 - problems and fixes • There are inevitably problems with the new version of the i. Phone and i. Pad software. As we hear of them we will outline them here, along with any fixes that have been suggested. • If you are having any issues with your i. Phone or i. Pad let Apple know. • Following Slides will look at some of the key issues and the suggested fixes for them.

Battery issues • IMobile Security firm Wandera, has identified some battery life concerns following the update to i. OS 11. • The company monitored 50, 000 i. Pad and i. Phone users, : • Finding that their battery was draining 'twice as fast' as those on i. OS 10. • This battery life issue could be related to the way Spotlight Search re-indexed i. OS 11 once installed. • It could be due to users trying out new features and thereby using their device in an unusual way. • Apple's i. OS 11. 0. 1 - update is thought to go some way to correcting the battery life issues, by addressing Wi. Crackling (or 'static') noise • Some users reported hearing an annoying crackling noise from their i. Phone's earpiece during phone or Face. Time calls. • but it only seems to affect the new i. Phone 8 and 8 Plus handsets. • Apple has addressed this with a patch in i. OS 11. 0. 2

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth – Off. • Confusion - toggle Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off in Control Centre on their i. Phone, it doesn't actually turn off the functions. • So that the following applications can have access to Wi-Fi and Blue Tooth: • Air. Drop, Air. Play, Apple Pencil, Apple Watch, Location Services, Continuity features; like Handoff and Instant Hotspot • What it means: using Control Center to turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth does not do the job. • To turn OFF Bluetooth or Wi-Fi: 1. go into Settings, 2. use Air Plane Mode. • They will turn on again automatically at 5 am the next morning.

Missing apps or apps not working • Because i. OS 11 marks the end of support for 32 -bit apps, • Some of the older apps on your i. Phone may stop working following the i.
