Classroom Procedures • Student movement within classroom ▫ Five Finger Method � 1 Finger: Sharpen pencil � 2 Fingers: Need to run an errand in the classroom � 3 Fingers: Bathroom � 4 Fingers: Water Fountain �Whole Hand: Question
• Warm Up Activity (that you begin as soon as you walk into the classroom) ▫ Notebook checks happen once a week and the do now’s need to be there and labeled with the date. ▫ We will go over the warm up activity at the beginning of class.
• When you leave school early (sick, doctor appointment, etc. ) ▫ It is your responsibility to make sure you get the work from me. It must be completed within a week from when you return to school. ▫ If you know in advance please let me know and I can prepare your work ahead of time.
• Take Home Folder ▫ One side is for take home work that parents need to sign and return. It is recommended that you keep your homework assignment pad in this folder. ▫ The second side is for school work that can stay home and not be signed.
• Use of cell phones and headphones ▫ Prohibited. Taken away if I see it at all. I will give back at the end of the day. ▫ Second time if it appears again, the student’s parents will need to come in to pick it up.
• Student movement in and out of classroom ▫ Only ONE person is allowed to leave the classroom at a time regardless of their destination. ▫ There is one girls pass, one boys pass, and one hallway pass. The hallway pass is for the nurse or office. ▫ Sign in and out sheet.
• Going to the restroom ▫ Take a pass, sign out in the classroom. When you return sign the time you returned and sit down without interrupting others and quietly assess where we are in class. If we are working collaboratively you may ask aloud.
• When Mrs. Kolarsick wants your attention. ▫ I will hold my hand high in the air. Please hold your hand in their air to show me that I have your attention.
• School Announcements/Classroom Phone Use ▫ When there is a school announcement it is expected that you stop talking and listen to the announcement. ▫ When the classroom phone is being used it is also expected that talking stops.
• Guests in the Classroom ▫ Each time a person enters the room the entire class should greet this person with “Good morning _____” or “Good afternoon _____”. ▫ If the guest has an announcement it is expected that you listen quietly. Raise your hand if you have a question AFTER their announcement.
• Card System ▫ You each have a card with your name on it. The goal is for it to remain green �GREEN: You had a GREAT day! �YELLOW: There are no consequences for being on yellow. It means you received one warning. �ORANGE: This is recorded on the HOW WAS MY WEEK that will be sent home to your parents on Friday. �RED: A phone call home will be made during the day.
• What you can do when your work is completed… ▫ Read a book at your seat quietly. ▫ Early Finisher Station ▫ Advanced projects will be assigned and you can use the computer station for research. ▫ We will do “centers” in many subjects. This means you will be rotating through different activities based on the same lesson.
• Working together as groups ▫ You will be given directions and jobs within your group. ▫ You are allowed to talk quietly to your group members ▫ You are not allowed to talk to neighboring groups.
• Homework ▫ Homework should be recorded each day on a daily homework planner. This should be kept in your “Take Home Folder” to go home each night. ▫ Homework will be written on the homework board each day.
• Dismissing class ▫ During the last two minutes I will review the homework board and you must show that it is copied down to me. ▫ This should be kept in the “Take Home Folder”.
• Lining up for lunch/recess/special events ▫ Students need to follow all directions (desk cleared, floors double checked and clean, etc. ) and then groups are called to line up, one at a time. ▫ Students are sent back to their seat if they talk in line. ▫ Leave once class is all in line, quietly.
• Walking to lunch/recess ▫ Students stay to the right, walk single file, quietly, stops at a designated point to wait for the “go ahead”.
• Preparing for fire drills and /or bomb threats ▫ Stay with me!
• Appropriately handling/using computers/equipment ▫ Students ALWAYS need permission to be on the computer stations. Students that do not follow directions will not be allowed at the computer station for a week. They will have a separate station. ▫ Computers will be used often during centers.
• Late work ▫ Points taken off.
• Missing work ▫ Zero until redone or found. Absent students have one week to make it up on their own. This is your responsibility.
• Incomplete work ▫ Try your best on your homework. Instructions on homework will be explained in class. Ask questions if you do not understand. Partial credit is given if you tried your best but it is not completed.
• Neatness ▫ Rewritten and due the next day, or it is deducted points for not being legible.
• Papers with no names ▫ No credit until claimed
• Using pens, pencils, colored markers ▫ Included in directions of a particular assignment.
• Setting and assigning due dates ▫ Classroom calendar ▫ HW assignment board ▫ Reminded each day
• Writing on back of paper ▫ OK in notebooks (points deducted for not doing so) ▫ Not okay for final copies of written papers/stories.
• Makeup work and amount of time for makeup work ▫ One week.
• Appropriate headings for papers ▫ Instructions are given each time, however they remain the same. Name, Date, Title ▫ Checked while checking notebooks a few times a month. ▫ Students would have points taken off for not following directions on a rubric for a final copy of a paper.
• Being prepared for class is important. Make sure you bring your binders, notebooks, folders, and school supplies each day!
• Groups ▫ You sit in groups and will need to work together as a team. You may be working with others during different lessons and may not always work with who you are sitting with. However, it is important that you work together with your neighbors. ▫ Group names
• Leaving room for special class ▫ Groups will be checked for following directions. Only groups that are ready will be called to line up.
• Keep your hands to yourself at all times. ▫ A warning is given if this is not followed.
“Telling on Other’s” ▫ Tattling is not recommended UNLESS the victim feels they are being bullied (see definition on the wall), are threatened, or feel endangered. ▫ If you are bullied it is important that you tell your parents, a trusted adult, or your teacher as soon as possible.
• Using the pencil sharpener ▫ One finger signal. ▫ Needs to wait during instruction or if someone is talking. ▫ Sharpen more than one pencil at the beginning of the class or during transition. ▫ If you are using a personal pencil sharpener make sure that you empty it out in the garbage can neatly.
• Listing assignments/homework/due dates ▫ Classroom calendar ▫ Homework assignment board in front of the room broken down by subject.
• Putting things away ▫ At the end of the day we all work together to clean up our own personal space. ▫ Directions will be given during lessons with five minute warnings to begin getting ready to clean up and transition.
How was my Week? ▫ “How was my week? ” �These are weekly reports that have recent grades recorded and a check list of behavior. A phone call home is given if it is not returned.
