Who we are with regards to Hydrographic survey! • The Hydrographic Survey responsibilities of the Nigerian Ports Authority are carried out within the Port’s jurisdiction as defined by coordinates of the Port Limits in the Port Act. (Section 6 of Part B of the Port Act). It is sighted as the Ports Declaration of Port Limits Order.
WHERE AND HOW? • Bathymetric Surveys: We have compulsory Pilotage Districts as established by the Port Act, namely Lagos, Warri, Calabar and Port Harcourt/Bonny Pilotage Districts. All Surveys are carried out pursuant to SOLAS Chapter V, section 9 and IHO Standards for Hydrographic Surveys- Publication S-44.

NIMASA • Establishment of Automatic Tide Gauge (ATG) & Surge Monitoring Station at NIMASA- NMRDC, Kirikiri. • There is an ongoing magnetometer surveys to locate, identify and mark wrecks in the Central and Western Zone Lagos. • There Agency had carried out an “Aids to Navigation survey” in the Nigerian waters, concentrating on the Lagos and Port Harcourt channels. The process for immediate procurement and installation of the Aids to navigation has been initiated and well under way. • As the foremost Agency charged with merchant shipping, there is an on-going review of the Merchant Shipping Act 2007 expected to be completed soon.
