Introduction • Goals of Medical Curriculum • Enrich the Yoatzot’s learning of halacha with a deeper knowledge of the relevant anatomy and physiology. (Year 1, Part 1) • Educate the Yoatzot on relevant medical issues that may have halachik implications (Year 1, Part 2) • Enable to the Yoetzet to synthesize her knowledge of medicine with her halachik thought process (Year 2) • Empower the Yoetzet to recognize when serious health issues may be present and/or when further professional evaluation is warranted
Plan of Study • Year 1 • Part 1: Structure and Function of Human Reproductive Systems • Part 2: Diagnosis and Treatment of Disorders/Disease of the Reproductive Systems • Assessments: • Multiple choice quizzes on each session • Multiple choice final exam • Year 2/Part 3 - Seminars in Health and Halacha • • Sessions will focus on topics that yoatzot have dealt with in the past Incorporate (and review) topics from Year 1 Discussion based with experts in the field Assessments: Problem based case studies, Final exam written/oral problem based from Yoatzot archives
Session 1: Anatomy of Human Reproductive Systems §Objectives: § The Yoetzet should gain a working knowledge of the nomenclature, location, and function of the following female anatomical structures: § Female external and internal genitalia § Female pelvic reproductive organs, specifically their location with respect to other pelvic organs and internal/external landmarks § Correlate the anatomical structures with their halachik equivalents § Understand the embryologic development of the female reproductive organs in so much as it may lead to anatomical abnormalities § The mechanics behind the basic female pelvic exam, including speculum exam, pap smear, and bimanual exam § The Yoetzet should understand the following with respect to male anatomy § Nomenclature and function of the basic male reproductive organs § The function and mechanics of reproductive structures during intercourse § The basics of spermatogenesis and how it differs from oogenesis

Mechanics of Pelvic Exam
