What is Narrative? • Narrative art is art that tells a story, either as a moment in an ongoing story or as a sequence of events unfolding over time. Some of the earliest evidence of human art suggests that people told stories with pictures. Examples of Narrative art:

This narrative art, The creation of Adam, is expressing the joint relationship between God

This narrative art, The creation of Adam, is expressing the joint relationship between God and humans- the fingers touching shows this. It illustrates the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which God gives life to Adam, the first man. This piece of art is a painting of a black girl walking below the four men. The four men have no face and are all white; this is trying to express how in the old days, especially in America, black lives' didn’t matter and they thought they were alone and separate from white people. I tis also signifying the dominance with white people over black people by showing one small black girl alone and four big white men walking together. This piece of art is showing a lot of men working to try fire an old cannon and a girl sat in behind them. This is showing that men did all the ‘dirty’ work and was the fighters in war, whilst the women were the nurses and stayed at home.

Cave Drawings Cave paintings are a type of parietal art, found on the wall or ceilings of caves. They are images drawn by Cavemen to communicate what they did when they were alive. They are mostly representations of them killing animals- displaying their dominance to animals. However, the last image is a drawing of them riding animals, throwing spears at enemies in battle.

Egyptian Hieroglyphics Egyptian hieroglyphs were the formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt. It combined logographic, syllabic and alphabetic elements, with a total of some 1, 000 distinct characters. These are similar to the Cave Drawings because they used images, but, also, used letters to help describe what they are doing. They are a combination of Narrative and Illustrated art.

The narrative within this drawing is trying to convey the dominance of men over animals and showing how they used to kill them to retrieve their food. They, clearly, used spears and bow & arrows to hunt food. It could, also, be interpreted as that this is a diary or instruction on how to hunt food to survive- a survivors guide.

How is narrative built in Graphics? In graphics there are two ways of narrative

How is narrative built in Graphics? In graphics there are two ways of narrative designs. One way is how the designer tried to portray a story in their design step by step and how the people looking at a design creates their own theory/ story withi the design.
