Basic Definitions § Growth=measurable physical changes that occur throughout a person’s life § Development=changes in intellectual, mental, emotional, social, and functional skills that occur over time § Life stages=stages of growth & development from birth to death
Types of Growth & Development § Physical=body growth (ht & wt changes, muscle & nerve development, & changes in body organs) § Mental or Cognitive=intellectual development (how to solve problems, make judgements, & deal with situations) § Emotional=feelings (dealing with love, hate, joy, fear, & excitement) § Social=interactions & relationships with others
7 Life Stages § Infancy: birth to 1 year § Early childhood: 1 -6 years § Late childhood: 6 -12 years § Adolescence: § Early adulthood: § Middle adulthood: § Late adulthood: 12 -18 years 19 -40 years 40 -65 years and older
7 Life Stages § Homework-Read the printed information about the 7 life stages. This is your copy so feel free to write on it. You are responsible for all of this information for the test. § Tomorrow you will create a life stages Power. Point or Prezi and make a collage on one assigned stage. § These will be presented to the class on Monday. § Do NOT just copy the information from the book on your PP/Prezi. Make it interesting, add pictures, and summarize it!
7 Life Stages § If you make a PP you must email it to your teacher or save it to a flashdrive. (dana. cashion@dcsms. org or ashley. berryhill@dcsms. org) § The collage can be made by cutting pictures from the magazines we have in class and gluing/taping them to white paper from the large paper roll. Make sure to add any words or definitions that will help explain your pictures.
