Human Consciousness as an Obstacle to Objectivity By
Human Consciousness as an Obstacle to Objectivity. By: Aiman Ashraf
Objectivism Reality can be known entirely as it is in itself, quite independently of the biases of any observing subject. Is it tenable?
“Research highlights that our visual system is too limited to accurately process all of the information that our eyes take in, so it works on the basis of the most likely interpretation”. -Leah Tierney WHY SO?
HUMAN CONCIOUSNESS Because we might see everything but we might not look at everything.
Subjectivity enacts Objectivity: Reality is understood by a subject of limited perspective and biasing experiences. You have to be a subject interpreting the information in some certain way. The very moment when a person puts his/her thought to create meanings out of something is where the phenomenon becomes subjective.
How is objectivity affected by Consciousness? Consciousness does not exist autonomous of the cultural thought and surroundings. Thoughts are shaped by the society and culture. Hence, the step of making meanings out of the reality or truth through images and abstracts that exist in nature visible to the human eye, always involve thought and mindfulness. It is difficult to achieve absolute objectivity. It can also include specific intentions.
In Other Words: Reality is generated by the brain based on the inputs coming in from our senses by looking at the images and abstract that knowledge produces.
There is no absolutely objective scientific analysis of […] “social phenomena” independent of special and “one-sided” viewpoints according to which expressly or tacitly, consciously or unconsciously they are selected, analyzed and organized for expository purposes. -Max Weber
How does it affect our behavior in society today? Lets understand it by looking at: at Episodes in the history of Astronomy. Geo-engineering
The Prototypes of the images collected from the telescopes and cameras are subject to testing. Based on the observation and interpretation of the images, we create realities. Technology shapes human reality. We now see nature as something that can be tamed (practices of Geo-engineering).
To be made to look at something, or to try to get someone to look at you entails play of power. By using technological interventions like camera or telescope, we can produce images with variety of purposes and intended effects.
High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP): • An ionosphere research program as a secret weapon and an attempt to modifying weather. • An advanced model of ionosphere heater, uses radio telescope, antenna and radio beaming technology. • Can trigger massive rains, tornados and hurricanes in any region, can wipe out communication network over larger areas, can do geo probing. • U. S. military documents claim that it aims to learn how to ‘exploit the ionosphere for Department of
ALMA: Most Powerful Observatory Designed To Observe the Universe. -Provides insight on star birth and imaging of planet formation.
HOW DOES LATOUR JUSTIFY SUBJECTIVITY AS REALISM?
Subjectivity: A valid form of constructed realism Our subjectivity can also become a hybrid which marks real meaning when it is entangled with the hybrids in the network shaping our minds in the same way as the scientific factishes do.
