WHY DO WE NEED DIFFERENT SYSTEMS? • Humans are very complex • We need systems to do different jobs to keep us alive

WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL OF ALL THE SYSTEMS? • Respiration Oxygen + glucose (sugar) carbon dioxide + water + energy Every cell needs oxygen and glucose delivered to it so it can make ENERGY in the mitochondria. Every cell needs to get rid of carbon dioxide.

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM • Circulatory system contains blood • Job is to deliver oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide Oxygen + glucose (sugar) carbon dioxide + water + energy

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM • Gets glucose from food and gives it to the circulatory system to deliver to cells Oxygen + glucose (sugar) carbon dioxide + water + energy

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM • Gets the oxygen from the air and gives it to the circulatory system to deliver to cells • Circulatory system collects carbon dioxide from cells. Gives it to respiratory system to get rid of from the body Oxygen + glucose (sugar) carbon dioxide + water + energy

EXCRETORY SYSTEM • Gets rid of excess water and waste Oxygen + glucose (sugar) carbon dioxide + water + energy

YOUR TASK – MAKE YOUR OWN HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS NOTES 1. Open a word processing document on your device or use your book. 2. Add the heading “Human body systems” 3. Add the subheading “Circulatory system” 4. Answer the following questions for the circulatory system: a) What role does the circulatory system play in respiration? b) What are the major organs or parts of the circulatory system? c) Find a picture that shows the part of the circulatory system. 5. Repeat the above questions for the respiratory system, digestive system and excretory system.
