Texting & Driving Caused a Death in my Family by Jeffrey Castillo

Sully Sanchez She was my cousin's fiance, but on September 28, 2012 around 5 pm something tragic happened. It started to rain and there was a lot of traffic. She stopped perfectly behind the person in front of her, but the person behind her hit her with full force. He was going 80 mph. Sully was pregnant and was due November 4, 2012. She died instantly, but the baby was still fighting for his life. The doctors saved him for a week and a half but my little cousin, Daryel Noah, later died. This was all caused by someone texting on their phone. Please when you are driving, DON'T text!! It really can ruin someone else's life. Sully Sanchez was only 23, she had a long life ahead of her. It didn't have to happen to her, but sadly it did.

Think before you do something. You never know what will happen. This is why texting while driving is illegal now because it causes serious car accidents just like this one.

11% of all drivers under the age of 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crash. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted.

Sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes from the road for an average of 4. 6 seconds. This is the equivalent of driving at 55 mph the length of an entire football field blind.

40% of all American teens say they have been in a car when the driver used a cell phone in a way that put people in danger.

570, 000 accidents leading to minor and serious injuries are caused each year by cell phone distractions, according to a Harvard study (NYT).
