The Circle Zone Model • Zone boundaries are based on the distance from the centre of the Metropolitan area (the centre of Helsinki) • The new zones will not necessarily follow any municipal boundaries • There will be no internal tickets, only circle zone tickets • The customer will always buy two circle zones in the inner circle zones area (A, B and C) • The cheapest tickets will often cover a larger area than the present system • The circle model is easier to expand, if/when the HSLarea expands and/or the municipal structure changes

The fare system 2016 - next steps • Defining the principles of ticket prices and long term tariff policy – Pricing of the zones and ticket types (season ticket, value ticket, single ticket) – Reduced price ticket groups, free travel -> The effects on PT use, municipal economy etc -> the opinions/statements of the municipalities • HSL Board’s decision on the principles in December 2013 • How will the customer see the new system? Planning has started with TIS 2014
