Risk assessment • Identify the hazards • Identify who is affected by hazard, and how • Evaluate the risk • Identify and prioritise appropriate control measures

Safety control measures First try to eliminate the hazard. Personal protective equipment should always be a last resort!

Physical environment • Examples of design-related control measures – Explosion safety (EX) – Safety barriers (built-in equipment) – Automatic control systems – Serviceable installation – Anything else?

Routines and procedures • Report accidents, mishaps and near-incidents (RUH in Norwegian) • ”Safety tours”: regular checks in our working area, where supervisor and one or two employees investigates the area and compare with a checklist • Procedures for dangerous working operations • Safe job analysis for any dangerous operation where there is no procedure • Routines for dealing with wastes and spillage
