HRE 4 M: Info about the Culminating Performance Task (CPT)

What is the CPT Worth? • Your CPT is worth 10 % of your final mark • You will be assessed on knowledge/understanding, thinking/inquiry, communication, and application Ø each category is worth 25 %

How Long will the CPT Take? • The CPT will be completed over the course of three days • You will receive a different series of tasks each day • You can use your notebook to help you • You will not be allowed to respond to any of the questions at home • All of the questions need to be completed in class

Day 1 • You will be given two Scripture passages • You must choose one passage and complete the assigned questions • You will need to apply your knowledge of the social justice principles

Day 2 • You will need to read F. Michael Ryan’s article, “Our Culture: Friend or Enemy” • You must respond to the corresponding questions • You must make some connections to the Scripture passage you analyzed the previous day

Day 3 • Read Donald De. Marco’s article, “The Virtue of Social Justice” • Answer the corresponding questions

What Can I do to Prepare? • Review the social justice principles • Read and highlight Fr. Michael Ryan’s article, “Our Culture: Friend or Enemy? ” Ø Pay close attention to how culture is both a friend and enemy Ø Make sure you understand individualism, materialism, relativism, and secularism • Read and highlight Donald De. Marco’s article, “The Virtue of Social Justice” Ø Make sure you identify and understand De. Marco’s thesis Ø Know what catchphrase De. Marco rejects Ø Understand why De. Marco accepts the Church’s position regarding truth
