Cultures & Lifestyles The way that parents raise their children depends partly on the way that they were raised. For example, the background of parents influences family goals and attitudes. The size of a family is often influenced by the cultural and social backgrounds of the parents.

Cultures & Lifestyles Today, families have many different lifestyles or ways of living. A

Cultures & Lifestyles Today, families have many different lifestyles or ways of living. A family's lifestyle depends partly on the parents‘: ethnic, religious and social background. There also outside influences on children that can be as strong as family influences. People today differ greatly from people in past generations. They can differ greatly on the following: how they spend money educational and work goals how they spend their leisure time the way they structure their families Couples today may come from very different backgrounds, race or religion. Whatever cultural background and lifestyle a family has, successful parents have one thing in common-----they understand the needs of their children.

Culture Comparison Based Survey This assignment requires you to use the Internet to research a culture other than North American (Canadian or American). Choose from East Indian, Chinese, Japanese, European etc. By using the Internet or interviewing a person from another culture, you will be locating information that tells you about the child-rearing practices of that culture. Locate information about how this culture views such topics as: discipline methods respect for elders play for children child labour allowances education State the sources used to find your information.

If collecting information from the Internet, record the websites used and the date the research was conducted. Once you have done your research and gained information on the topics outlined, plus any other topics you feel important, complete a chart similar to the one that follows, to show comparisons and differences between our North American culture and the one researched. You may use your own knowledge of North American child-rearing practices to complete the comparisons.
