How to Write a Story Brainstorm Plan Plot
How to Write a Story Brainstorm, Plan, Plot, Write, Revise, Edit, Publish, Share.
Brainstorming • • • Who is your story about? (hero, sidekick, villain) Where does the story take place? When does your story take place? What happens? What is the problem that must be solved? Why does it happen? How is the problem solved?
Plan out your story • Once you have ideas for your story, it is time to trim them down. • Some of your ideas need more information, some ideas may need to be cut out. • How will the story grow to a climax, then be resolved in an interesting manner.
Plotting • Especially for a picture book, you need to know what is going on every page so that your story does not end quickly or go on forever. Where will you introduce the character? The setting? When will the problem happen? When will the character solve the problem?
Writing your story • Only once you have a plan in place do you write. Now that you know what goes on each page, you write each page individually.
Revise • Now that you have followed your plan, what should have you done differently? Now is the time to do that. This is the stage where you change your good story into a great story.
Publish • For your story to be finished, you need to draw your pictures and put them together into a book.
Share • A story finds meaning in the reader. No story is alive until it is read. Share your story with other students by reading it too them or letting them read it on their own.
