How to write a questionnaire for your coursework research. Objectives: • To understand how to write a questionnaire for your coursework research. • To produce a questionnaire. • To understand how to collect the research.
Pilot Questionnaire. • This is a questionnaire that you design and send out to a few people - it is like a ‘draft’ version. • It allows you to see if the respondents understand the questions. • Then any changes can be made before you hand out the real one.
Introduction to the questionnaire. • This is a written piece of work outlining the following: • Explain the pilot questionnaire - tell me why you are doing this. • Why you have produced the questionnaire - what do you hope to find out? How will it help you? • How many people are you going to ask? At least ten. Why? How will you find these people? • Why have you asked the questions that you have? How will this help you in your investigation? • What will you do with the results?
Designing your questionnaire. • You will need 10+ questions - no more than 15. • Each question needs to be relevant to the study. • You should start the questionnaire with an explanation about why you are asking the questions, i. e. to find out about providing healthy, economical meals…and also say you would be grateful if you could fill it in!. . .
Task. Providing healthy, economical meals day after day can be difficult. Investigate.
Ideas for questions. • How often do you prepare a meal from scratch? • Do you find it difficult to provide healthy meals every day? • Would you say that you cook a wide variety of dishes containing at least 3 portions of vegetables? • How many dishes that you eat per week contain at least some fruit or veg? • How often do you buy take-away meals? Ready-meals? Why? • How much do things cost? • Where do you buy your produce from? • What is your weekly spend on evening meals per week? (answers in brackets) • If fruit and vegetables were cheaper and easier to obtain would you buy more of them? • How much time do you spend on preparing food every day? • What attracts you mostly to a meal? Presentation of the questionnaire. • Number the questions • Use boxes or brackets [ ] • Use clear text, size 12.
Homework • Make sure you have typed up your introduction. • Use your questionnaire to collect your research and keep any research safe.
