How to use triplebeam balance to measure mass
How to use triple-beam balance to measure mass. Objective: To accurately measure the mass of objects.
Use a balance to measure mass. There are three types. Triple-beam balance, Double-pan balance, and digital/electronic balance.
Watch the video modeling how to use the triple-beam balance.
Practice time: Let’s label the diagram Be ready to touch the balance part when named.
Steps to follow: 1. If needed, zero the pointer using the adjustment knob. 2. Place object on pan. 3. Move the 100 g rider, clicking into each notch, until pointer drops below 0. 4. Back 100 g rider up one notch. 5. Continue with the 10 g rider. Same as above. 6. Repeat with the 1 g rider until pointer is at 0. 7. Add up the three readings for total mass in g.
Your turn: Remove your shoe. Let’s find the mass of it. Follow T as she reads each step.

Closure: 1. What was the learning objective? 2. Which step is the hardest for you to remember? 3. What are the steps I use to measure mass?
On your own: Find 2 objects in your backpack of different apparent weights. Find the mass of each of the objects. Have your neighbor check your work.
