2 • Make sure the stage with the slide on it is raised as high as it can go.
3 • To focus, slowly turn the course adjustment so that the stage moves down until the object comes in focus.
4 • If you move it too far down, stop! Take eyes off of ocular, look from the side and raise the stage all the way to the top again, and start over again from low power. The stage only moves down when looking through ocular, never up.
5 • Once in focus on low power, take eyes off of ocular and while looking from the side (to make sure it won’t touch) turn to the medium objective.
6 • Once on medium power, never use course adjustment, only fine adjustment.
7 • Move stage down with fine adjustment until the object comes into focus.
8 • If you move it too far down, stop! Take eyes off of ocular, look from the side and raise the stage all the way to the top again, and start over again from low power. The stage only moves down when looking through ocular, never up.
9 • Once in focus on medium power, take eyes off of ocular and while looking from the side (to make sure it won’t touch) turn to the high powered objective.
10 • Move stage down with fine adjustment until the object comes into focus.
11 • If you move it too far down, stop! Take eyes off of ocular, look from the side and raise the stage all the way to the top again, and start over again from low power. The stage only moves down when looking through ocular, never up.
12 • Stop! Do not use oil immersion lens. You may break the slide or scratch the microscope lens.
