How to use ESPON HYPERATLAS V 2 ? Espon Open Seminar Aalborg, 2012 June 14 th Jérôme Gensel, Benoît Le Rubrus, Marlène Villanova (LIG) Nicolas Lambert, Ronan Ysebaert (RIATE) Hélène Mathian, Claude Grasland (Géographie-cités)
INTRODUCTION HYPERATLAS V 1 • A spatial analysis tool for multiscalar analysis of inequalities • Created by geographers and computer scientists in 2000 • Adopted by ESPON 2006 Program • Further used by European Parliament, EEA … • Transfered to external countries (Tunisia, Romania, …) HYPERATLAS V 2 • ESPON 2013 Project realised in 2010 • New functionalities (econometrics, simulation, …) • New datasets at different scales • Integration of own data by users (Hyper. Admin) Currently not sufficiently used by ESPON projects except TPM.
INTRODUCTION Hypera. Atlas
REGIONAL DATA Q. How can I analyze the fertility of European Region in 2005 at NUTS 2 level and transform it into index 100 according to European, National or Local contexts ?
Website : http: //hypercarte. espon. eu
Select File : Demography. hyp
Select Variable : Fertility rate 2005
Proceed to : Multiscalar Analysis
Export maps and data: Build report
GLOBAL DATA Q. How can I compare the demographic dependency ratio of ESPON countries to the neighbouring countries in eastern and southern directions ? What about the evolutions between 1970 and 2050 ?
Select File : Euromed. hyp
Select : Dependency ratio 2010
Compare with Past : Dep. ratio 1970
Examine Future : Dep. ratio 2050
LOCAL DATA Q. How can I analyze population variation in the cross-border area of Luxembourg. France-Belgium-Germany on the basis of data collected by METROBORDER project?
Website : http: //hypercarte. espon. eu
Select File : Metroborder. hyp
Select Numerator : Population 2006
Select Denominator : Population 1999
Relative variation: Pop 2006/Pop 1999
Redistribution: Inter-national
Redistribution: Intra-National
USERS DATA Q. I am working on regional inequalities in Turkey for DG Enlargement. How can I create a new file for Hyper. Atlas based on my own statistical data and my own geometries ?
Use the Hyperadmin tool… Everything is explained in the friendly manual …
Regional economic inequalities in Turkey After many efforts (not so easy), a new. HYP file has been created and the first map of added value per capita can be visualised
Regional economic inequalities in Turkey Hyper. Atlas can compute econometric indexes of regional inequalities (sigma convergence)
Regional economic inequalities in Turkey Hyper. Atlas can simulate the amount of added value (red) or population (blue) to move in order to reach full national convergence
Regional economic inequalities in Turkey And produce a typology of regions according to national, regional and local economic situations.
CONCLUSION • HYPERATLAS could be used by more ESPON projects • TERRITORIAL MONITORING is one of the most obvious candidate • EASIER CONNECTION with database is necessary • MORE TIME SERIES should be introduced in the datafiles with new functions (convergence measures, concentration, …)
