C O N T EN T S Chinese Students’ English Standards Preparations Before Class About Class Procedures
Students’ Ages Students’ Characteristics, Beginning English Standards and Teaching Tips AA Level 4 -6 1) Have learnt most of letters in the alphabet but might mix up some of the similar letters. 2) Interested in things around them or related to them(for instance: body parts , colors, family members, food, pets, transportations). 3) Not able to make or understand long sentences. 4) Couldn’t use a mouse well. 5) Easily distracted and couldn’t stay attentive for a long time. Teaching tips: Demonstrate things you want students to do or say;Use body languages; Simplify your sentences and lower your talking speed; Encourage students to speak out key vocabulary words and repeat simple sentence; B Level 5 -7 Students should be familiar with the alphabet and some simple nouns and verbs. They should also be familiar with some simple sentence structures like: I can__ ; I go to __; I see__; Teacher should talk at a lower speed and encourage students to talk in full sentences. D Level 7 -8 Students should be familiar with most of high frequency words in kindergarten and be able to make a few long sentences with these HFW. (For example: I see a bird fly in the sky; I can go to school by bus ; My favorite sport is basketball). Their vocabulary is relatively good now so try to use some smart words while talking. They should be able to understand most of teachers’ talk in class. G Level 8 -10 Students should have grasped a large amount of vocabulary and be able to talk in full sentences. They should have learnt some easy grammars like past tense. However, most of them might make a lot of grammar mistakes so teachers should correct them if that happens. Comprehension skills and strategies are very important at this level. Level
