Selecting Key Words Lions live in protected National Parks throughout East and Southern Africa. They live in extended family groups called prides which is unusual among most cat species who normally live a solitary existence prides often contain two adult males, a group of females and up to 8 cubs the five to ten females in a pride are usually all sisters who have developed close bonds since they were cubs. Lions need up to 25 kg of meat each day. Male lions in a pride are often attacked by other pairs of males. If these new lions win, they kill all of the cubs in the pride if they win and start their own line of cubs again once the female lions have accepted them.
