Language Section A: Reading Things that you need to ensure you are doing in the exam: • Reading the text thoroughly – making sure you understand the narrative. • Selecting the most appropriate quotations to support your ideas. These areas where even the most confident of students can fall down!
Reading! You need to spend more time reading (the more texts you are exposed to, the better it will be!) If you are not a reader – become friends with the library. Stick to small, smart targets (E. g. 10 minutes/3 pages/1 chapter a day before bed) and go from there. It’s not just that easy though, you need to engage with the texts not just passively read them!
Paper Two Section A The Guardian website is really useful! For Paper 2 revision you need to go to the ‘Opinion’ section. Choose an article and read through it. Make notes on: The viewpoint of the writer. The techniques they use to express their ideas. Which words or phrases do you think have the most impact? y! Alwa fy wh i t s u j ys
Paper Two Section A Using your folders: • Look back over past papers completed in class. Re-read your answer and then re-write it making improvements. • Re-read the extracts – on reflection, do you agree with the quotations you have chosen? If not why not? If yes, why? • Check the mark scheme for examples and what you need to do to move up to the next band. How far off are you?
Writing – Section B Create an opinionated article ‘game’ (it’s not that fun, but I’m not sure what else to call it!). You need 4 cups/beakers. Put in a selection of: Who you are (student, journalist, parent etc) A type of writing (E. g. broadsheet newspaper, blog, speech to… etc. ) A selection of statements in another (ask friends, family, teachers for these).
