How to Respond to Redirection PBIS Lesson
§ While in the building you may encounter situations in which you are redirecting students who do not respond respectfully or appropriately. This lesson addresses how students should respond when redirected. For the Teacher § PBIS World has a short reminder on the art of redirecting students. §Discuss each of the following Let’s Practice scenarios with your partner and then be ready to participate in a class discussion.
§ You and a friend are coming into the classroom from the hallway and are talking loudly and being disruptive. § Your teacher asks you to Let’s Practice: Scenario 1 please come in quietly, have a seat and begin working on the assignment. § Does your behavior show that you are Ready? § How should you respond?
§ You are caught using your cell phone in the hallway by the hall monitor. § S/he reminds you that cell Let’s Practice: Scenario 2 phones are not allowed during the school day and asks you to give your phone to him/her. § Does your behavior show that you are Responsible? § How should you respond?
§ You are sitting in the back of class with your head down on the desk while the rest of the class is engaged in the lesson. § You are coming back from lunch Let’s Practice: Scenario 4 finishing your bag of chips. A teacher you do not know stops you, reminds you that food is not allowed in the hallway and asks you for your chips. § Does your behavior show that you are Responsible? § How do you respond?
