What to do: Decide which supplies to hand out in advance and which to hand out as they are needed. When you are ready: #1 Tell students the bags full of beads are sort of like people…each bag is different from the others. The beads are different sizes, shapes, and colors (just like people!), but they were all made just the way they were meant to be, and each one is beautiful in its own way. #2 Invite each student to choose a bag full of beads they think are beautiful, interesting, or unique. Then ask them why they chose those beads. Share the reason with the class. #3 Either give the beads to the students as they choose them (but ask them to leave the beads in the bags!) or write their names on the bags so they can be passed out later.

What to do: #4 #5 #6 Talk about how pretty/interesting/unique each bag of beads

What to do: #4 #5 #6 Talk about how pretty/interesting/unique each bag of beads is (like people). Then talk about how a key chain could be made using only 1 kind of bead…but that would be kind of boring (kind of like having a world full of people who are all alike). See if students will agree that a key chain would be much more interesting if it were made using different kinds of beads (like the world is more interesting with different people). Assist students in exchanging beads with one another. One way would be to put students’ cups in a line, have students line up and walk by the cups, putting one of their own beads in each cup. Students will use the beads in their cup to make their keychain.
